HHS is recognized for organ donation leadership

This month, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) leaders, staff, physicians and guests gathered to celebrate the hospital being recognized as the top performer in Ontario for organ and tissue donation.

At the event, HHS President & CEO Rob MacIsaac and VP Teresa Smith were presented with two significant awards by Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) President & CEO Ronnie Gavsie:

• Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Conversion Rate, this was given to hospitals that met or exceeded the target of a 67% conversion rate in 2014/15. Conversion rate is the percentage of eligible organ donors who went on to give the gift of life. For 2014/15, HHS’s conversion rate was 70%.
• Award of Excellence, given to hospitals that met or exceeded the provincial targets for conversion rate in four or more consecutive years, demonstrating an outstanding commitment to the implementation of donation best practices.

The event ctrillium photo 2elebrated the culture and team behind the hospital’s success, which was echoed by speakers, including Rob MacIsaac, Ronnie Gavsie, Teresa Smith and Hamilton General Hospital Intensive Care Unit nurse Ravinder Multani.
