Superheroes join forces for Walk & Wheel

ZOOM! POW! Superheroes of all sizes will be joining together to support McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation at MacKids Walk & Wheel for Miracles.

This year’s Walk & Wheel is proud to feature three Superhero Ambassadors whose lives were changed forever thanks to McMaster Children’s Hospital. They have graciously agreed to share their stories to help illustrate the importance of the hospital as a regional referral centre for specialized pediatric care, and to help encourage fundraising through Walk & Wheel.

Imagine being a 13-year-old needing lifesaving dialysis three times a week. Introducing superhero Yuna, who has a type of kidney disease called IgA nephropathy. Despite her numerous visits to McMaster Children’s Hospital each week, Yuna keeps up with her schoolwork and is enjoying Grade 8.

Imagine being born prematurely with a condition called gastroschisis, where your bowel is protruding from your body. Surgeons at McMaster Children’s Hospital operated on superhero Quentin for the condition when he was only 11 days old. His next few years of life required additional visits to the Hospital for follow-up care and more surgery. Now 7 years old, Quentin is doing well and is proud to support Walk & Wheel.

Imagine losing your best friend at age 13. Meet superhero Abbey, whose friend Zoë passed away in January 2015 due to complications from a muscle disease. While grieving her loss, Abbey saw an ad for Walk & Wheel and decided that participating was a great way to honour her friend. Abbey’s fundraising efforts will help Zoë’s legacy live on by supporting the important care provided at McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Throw on your cape and join these Superhero Ambassadors at the sixth annual MacKids Walk & Wheel for Miracles on June 3 at Pier 4 Park in Hamilton, brought to you in collaboration with presenting partner Mercedes-Benz Burlington. Register and fundraise today at
